Update, Alpha-3.0.0
I focused most of my energy on getting map transitions to work this week. Walking on some stairs and loading into a new map turned out to be the easy part. The big issue I found was that saving and loading multiple maps was not going to work the the single save file I was using. Well, to be exact, it did work. Mostly. But it was such a convoluted mess of code that the potential for saving and loading errors was much higher than I was comfortable with.
So now I'm going with multiple files in a single save folder. For players, this shouldn't be that significant, unless you were planning on copying over an old save which you shouldn't be doing anyway.
All of that pretty much took up most of the week, but I spent the last day and a half implementing a "sanity" system which should really spice things up. When you start up a new game you shouldn't really notice anything different. It's only after you've been playing a while that things will start happening. How you play will influence when certain things happen. I say "when", not "if" because it's pretty much unavoidable unless you get really lucky. Suffice to say, whenever you see something about getting an "uneasy" feeling, you're probably one step closer to going insane.
Also, the game is now officially playable from beginning to end. Hopefully there are enough clues in the game that you can figure out how everything works. I'll be adding more in-game descriptions as time goes on.
This next week I'm going to start focusing more on actual content and fleshing out pretty much everything. I'm sure you're all getting tired of just slaying cave beasts all the time.
